Enhanced Environmental Due Diligence Programs, North America

On behalf of many North American and multinational clients, pre-acquisition compliance audits evaluated environmental compliance issues, operational deficiencies, and infrastructural constraints at industrial complexes including chemical plants, cogeneration facilities, and mine operations. Expert teams assessed applicable international and in-country federal, provincial, and state regulations while completing comprehensive site audits. These multimedia audits included extensive review/analysis of facility permits, land-based waste management practices, intermodal transport operations, and prospective future environmental compliance requirements.

Identified releases of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), industrial solvents, lubricating and quench oils, cyanide, heavy metals, coal ash, and/or polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) resulting from historic manufacturing practices, fire training/suppression events, and underground storage tank operations. All release areas were triaged: a) for follow-on targeted investigation, b) along viable compliance pathway options, and c) through preliminary remediation alternative analyses.

Reports presented IASB/FASB-compliant estimates for asset retirement obligation (ARO) guidance, rail/port/landside compliance options, and plant/mine infrastructural improvement recommendations—all tailored to our clients’ needs. These programs were all completed on fast-tracked schedules to support time-critical Board-of-Directors’ decisions by prescribed merger-and-acquisition deadlines.
